There are a lot of survival gadgets out there, but not all of them are great. In fact, most of them are just plain useless because they don’t work or they break easily.

But I’ve figured out the key to finding the best gadgets for survival. It all begins with being informed about what works, and what is truly valuable in a survival situation.

2. Make an insulated shelter

Using a tarp and wood, make a shelter that is windproof and waterproof. Create a vent for smoke to escape from the fire if you have one inside the shelter.

3.  Make a shade shelter

You will need:

• Two poles (2 m high and 50 cm in diameter)

• One rope (1.5 m long) for each pole

• A hammer and nails to fix the rope to the poles.
